Frequently Asked Questions
How much do you charge per hour?
My current rate is $175 per 60 minute session.

Are you covered by OHIP or insurance?
Unfortunately, at this time psychotherapy services are not covered by OHIP. In regard to insurance, I don’t provide direct billing. You will need to contact your insurance provider and confirm whether they cover services provided by a Registered Psychotherapist. Once confirmed, you can submit your receipt to your insurance provider, after payment, to receive reimbursement.
What forms of payment do you accept?
E-transfers and credit card. Please be advised that with credit card payments there will be an added fee of $5.
What hours are you available?
My hours are usually on weekdays during the evening from 4:30-7:30pm, and Saturday mornings from 9:00am-1:00pm.
How do I book an appointment?
Please send an email to swong@mindsightpsychotherapy.com and I will be in contact with you within 1 business day to set up a 15-minute consultation or first session.
How long will it take, how many sessions will I need?
Unfortunately, that’s a difficult question to answer generally as everyone is different with different concerns. The length of time therapy can take, in order to accomplish your goals, depends on your desire for personal development, your level of commitment, and the factors that are driving you to seek therapy in the first place. And all these factors can also change during therapy.
How frequent should I book my sessions?
Frequency of sessions is dependent on your preference. Most people start off weekly or bi-weekly to gain traction and after a while, taper off for maintenance, booster sessions, or continual exploration.
I want to get the most out of therapy what can I do to help?
It’s great to hear you are dedicated to getting the most out of therapy. Your active participation and dedication is crucial to your success, especially in session. I always encourage practicing the skills discussed in sessions and implementing them directly to your experiences; reading about mindfulness and acceptance-based practices; and be willing to do some homework between sessions! It’s the work you do outside of our sessions that will really help you see your personal growth and development.
Do you prescribe medication or diagnose?
As a Registered Psychotherapist, I cannot prescribe medication or diagnose. I can only provide psychotherapy services. Medication often treats our symptoms. Psychotherapy is about exploring the root of our issues; understanding the function of our emotions, behaviours, and thought patterns which allows us to create meaningful change.
What’s the difference between therapy and talking to a friend or family?
The difference is between someone who can support, and someone who has the training and experience to guide you through your difficulties professionally. A qualified mental health professional can bring new insight and help you approach your situation in a new way– teach new skills, highlight different perspectives, listen nonjudgmentally and free from expectations, and ultimately help you listen to yourself. Furthermore, therapy is completely confidential meaning you don’t have to worry about anyone else “knowing your business.” Many of our family and friends may mean well and yet you may have received advice that just was not helpful. Therapy is not about giving advice, it’s about working collaboratively with a different perspective to do things differently. I believe that each person knows deep down what the path for them is; sometimes we need help finding and developing that intuitive sense through painful realizations that not many friends can bear to highlight.
